Concrete floors are often installed in places that need a tough and reliable base. Concrete itself is reasonably strong, yet it needs something else to help it last for years even while people drive over it and scratch it with machinery. That is where epoxy comes in. Epoxy garage flooring is popular because they are strong enough to handle the weight of cars and are also resistant to scratches and other surface damage.

If you are thinking about installing epoxy flooring, then you should consider Cardinal Concrete Coatings. We are the best epoxy garage flooring contractor in Tempe, AZ. We specialize in concrete floors with protective coatings.

Tempe, AZ, Concrete Coatings Services

Concrete floors are great options for any room or outdoor space where the floor needs to hold a lot of weight, withstand chemical spills, or have a lot of exposure to the sun and other outside elements. Epoxy-protected floors are not just for garages, though that is a common place to find them.

At Cardinal Concrete Coatings, we install everything from epoxy garage flooring in driveways. The following are some of the most popular floors that we install.

Epoxy Garage Flooring

Garage floor coatings are one of our specialties. Most people use their garage to store their cars, but they can also use them as project spaces to use heavy and sharp machinery. We often protect garage floors with epoxy or other materials so that they can hold a lot of weight and be resistant to scratches.

Commercial Epoxy Floor Coating

Another popular place to find concrete floors protected by epoxy is in commercial places like hardware or home improvement stores. These spaces need to hold the weight of vehicles and a lot of inventory. They also need to be resistant to chemicals and oil spills. That is why most of these spaces have epoxy flooring.

Pool Deck Coatings

Pool deck and patio coatings are other popular projects for us. These floors are different from the interior floors installed in garages and commercial spaces. A patio or pool deck resurfacing project will usually require different materials than indoor floors because the materials need to be resistant to UV rays. We typically use polyaspartic coatings for outdoor surfaces because they can protect the floor from deteriorating in the sunlight.

Why You Should Choose Cardinal Concrete Coatings

We know that when you are looking to install an epoxy garage floor or any other type of protected concrete floor, that you have many options. At Cardinal Concrete Coatings, we try to set ourselves apart from the competition by using the best products.

For each project, we assess the location of the new floor and determine the best mix of materials to use depending on sun exposure and intended use of the area. For example, we would use a different blend of materials for a concrete pool deck with total sun exposure than a floor inside a retail store.

In general, we use some mix of polyurea and polyaspartic materials on our floors. These materials are very similar. They each help to strengthen concrete floors so that they can hold the weight of cars. They also help the surface remain resistant to damage like scratches.

We usually use polyurea for indoor projects and polyaspartic materials for outdoor projects because polyaspartic is UV stable. That means that floors with polyaspartic coatings won’t deteriorate in sunlight.

How Our Process Works

At Cardinal Concrete Coatings, we follow a six-step process for each project. This process allows us to check for problems and fix them before it is too late. Our process is as follows.

Step 1: Preparing the Floors

The first step is to prepare the floors. We do this by sanding down the concrete using a grinder. Once we have a smooth and polished concrete floor, we will thoroughly clean the worksite. Doing this will help keep dust and debris away from the protective coatings and keep the floor looking great throughout the process.

Step 2: Repairing the Floors

Next, we will make repairs to the floor. Now that we have cleaned the area of dust, we will be able to see everything more clearly. Sometimes, during the smoothing process, we find air bubbles or other inaccuracies on the floor. If we notice any errors, we will make immediate repairs before moving on.

Step 3: Apply the Base Coat

In this step, we will apply a base coat of protective material. If we are installing an indoor floor, then we will use polyurea. If we are installing the floor outdoors, then we will use UV-resistant polyaspartic materials.

Step 4: Add Decorations and Texture

Next, we will add any decorations or texture to the floor. If the client wants a pop of color on their floor, then we will use color flakes. We will spread them around the floor in a pattern chosen by the client. For pool decks and patios, we often add physical texture to help them become more slip-resistant. This step is important for all floors that might have rain or pool water on them.

Step 5: Flatten and Clean the Surface

In this step, we will scrape down the flakes until the surface is smooth again, which will allow the topcoat to be smooth as well. If we add physical texture to the surface, then we will not flatten the surface.

Step 6: Add Top Coat

Lastly, we add a top coat to ensure long-lasting protection from wear and tear.

We use the highest quality materials in our polyaspartic floor coatings and we’ve perfected our application process to make the concrete coating permanent.  Once completely cured and adhered, the concrete coating is meant to last as long as the substrate it’s adhered to.

Polyaspartic Floor Coatings dry more quickly than Epoxy Floor Coatings, and the finish is also more durable.  Our floor concrete coating finishes are also more slip-resistant and will not discolor like some Epoxy Floor Coatings.

Our flooring cures within a few hours, however our team of professionals recommends waiting at least 4-6 hours before walking on your brand new concrete coated flooring. After 12 hours, you can begin moving lightweight objects onto the flooring, like light patio furniture.  We recommend waiting a full 24 hours before moving anything heavy back into the area where we’ve applied the coating (your car, heavy equipment or furniture etc.).

It sure won’t! Our concrete floor coverings will not yellow or discolor, because they are UV stable. This  one of the many benefits of using Polyurea or Polyaspartic floor coatings.

If you follow our maintenance and cleaning guidelines, you should not have to worry about resealing the concrete floor coating. We offer a professional grade cleaner that will easily remove stains or tire marks, but will also preserve the life of your concrete coating topcoat.

We’ve perfected our 6-step application process, so most typical projects take between 5-10 hours depending on the square footage.  We pride ourselves in a one-day application, and will do everything possible to stay within that time frame.  Rainy weather can delay the project, but it is rare.

You can clean our concrete coatings with typical sweeping, mopping or steaming, and hoses.  We offer maintenance services should your concrete flooring ever need cleaning, however you can also use non-abrasive cleaners, like CLR, to remove grease or other stains.

Cardinal Concrete’s coatings are oil resistant as well as moisture resistant.

Bayer Material Science first developed Polyaspartic coatings in the 1990’s to protect steel bridges and infrastructure from rusting and corrosion. It has since been modified for different applications, once being durable concrete flooring coatings.

Polyaspartic Concrete coating is another name for Aliphatic Polyurea, which is a hybrid material consisting of ester and other materials. It was originally developed to coat metal bridges.  It was later used to coat concrete flooring due to its durability and moisture resistance. Polyurea is also used to coat truck bed liners.

They sure can!  We offer wonderful solutions for driveways, patios, and even the area around the pool.  Our coatings are all UV stable, which will help prevent discoloration or flaking.

Polyaspartic flooring coatings can be used in a variety of environments.  The durability, slip resistant finish is fantastic for any industrial setting, storefronts, patios, or even driveways or garages.

We have perfected a six step process for applying Polyaspartic Floor Coatings that involves prepping the floor, basecoating, applying chips, scraping the chips, and applying the clear UV protective clear coat.

You can!  Polyaspartic floor coatings are safe to apply in temperatures as cold as -40 degrees.

Our Polyaspartic Floor Coatings are engineered to rapidly cure, and can be dry in a matter of a few hours!  However, we recommend waiting at least 5-6 hours before walking on newly applied coating and 24 hours before moving heavy objects back onto the flooring.

Installing Polyaspartic Floor Coating correctly is critical to the appearance and durability of your flooring.  Hiring a professional is the best way to ensure that your flooring will look amazing and last a lifetime! Our team at Cardinal Concrete is certified in Polyaspartic Floor Coating installation and have many years of experience.

It is!  Polyaspartic floor coatings are specially formulated for their incredible adhesion properties.  If you have existing patches of epoxy coating, our team can sand it down, vacuum, and wipe down the area with a solvent.  Once prepped, we will apply your new, superior, Polyaspartic Floor Coating
